DESIGN IS......
OPEN, INCLUSIVE, ACCESSIBLE, EMPATHETIC & SENSUAL

But what does that mean?

We’re all touched by design on a daily basis without realising it, and every person solves problems creatively in their own lives.

Nairobi Design Week 2020 explored design together with the community under the theme 'Design Is for Everyone!' featuring an all female launch on International Women's Day, a week long exhibition, community design project, workshops, movie nights and more!

PAINT THE COURT,

a LIVE interactive Collaboration with the Community!

=🏀Basketball Court Restoration + 🎨Mural Painting + 🎶Jam Session + 💃🏿Choreography + ⚙️Design Thinking Workshops + 📹Music Video Shoot + 👾LabelledHuman campaign

#PaintTheCourt is our first case study, focused on how design can:

-Bring diverse communities together to create real impact in the short, medium and long term.

-Uncover, solve and share challenges in a united effort that brings value to participants, partners and the public.

-Sustainably transform and promote public spaces and cultural events, through practical and interactive experiences🙌🏾

LabelledHuman: We've all be labelled, but at the end of the day, we're all #LabelledHuman.

The 'Labelled Human' song and music video invite us all to share what we’ve been labelled, providing a platform for release and further understanding of those around us. Created during #NairobiDesignWeek 2020.

An all female launch on International Women's Day.

The Urban Residency:

Community Renovation Toolkit with KLI - 3 finalists were invited to spend a week at Kenya Lighting Industries refining their designs and learning about industrial manufacturing methods such as laser cutting, CNC punching and electrostatic powder coating.

Grishon designed laser cut urban seats, Kashyap designed lights & Farhiya designed basketball hoops.

The designs were then manufactured and launched at Nairobi Design Week 2020.

The original production prototypes were then left on site at 209 Statehouse Road in order to serve the community in the long term.
