EXCEPTIONAL

UNCONVENTIONAL

EXPERIENCES

Since 2015, Nairobi Design Week has been a constant in the local and global design calendar. Our vibrant community welcomes thousands of visitors every year.

Nairobi's status as a global design city allows us to showcase design through exceptional, unconventional experiences.

We embrace inter-disciplinary values and methodologies to work on projects throughout the year that culminate in an annual celebration of design’s past, present and future.

Our

WORK

Agency

Throughout the year we work with local and global communities to showcase design and bridge the gap between creatives and opportunities.

Our agency structure allows us to work on internal projects and partner programmes.

Projects span showcase and studio activities, and range from design thinking and strategic facilitation, to digital and physical products, systems, services and experiences.

Festival

Now in its 8th year, the festival has evolved into a place that encourages creativity and expression from participants, partners and visitors.

Every year we pick a theme that’s relatable to us all on a small and big scale, in life and design.

The festival provides many of our agency projects with additional value.

Frequently asked

QUESTIONS

Why does Nairobi Design (Week) exist?

Cross Icon Image
Creatives need access to opportunities, and opportunities need people to find them. Nairobi Design Week was founded as a platform to showcase Kenyan and East African design with the community.

What's a 'design week' anyway?

Cross Icon Image
Design weeks and festivals take place around the world, as a celebration of design. They range in size and strategy, and are mostly either private or government owned, independent of each other. Some of the most established include Milan Design Week, London Design Festival, Helsinki Design Week and Barcelona Design Week. We're on the board of World Design Weeks, a membership organisation of 40+ global festivals.

Why did you rebrand?

Cross Icon Image
We wanted our structure and strategy to be clearer. A lot of people called us 'Nairobi Design' anyway. The festival is still called 'Nairobi Design Week' because of the familiarity of its name.

What's the meaning behind the pattern?

Cross Icon Image
We designed the pattern in 2017 to symbolise a community that connects, creates, shares and builds a platform together. Along with our brand identity, it also got a refresh. What do you think?

Are you part of the same company as XYZ Design/Fashion Week?

Cross Icon Image
No, we're independently run from any other organisation. We partner with our friends at Kampala Design Week and other festivals around the world to showcase design together.
