EXPERIENCES

We work with our community to showcase design, and bridge the gap with other industries.

Since 2015 we've offered our partners and clients the unique opportunity to engage thousands in person through our annual festival, Nairobi Design Week, a celebration of design’s past, present and future.

We create bespoke products and experiences, and consult throughout the year. We embrace new design methodologies, diversity of thought, and inter-disciplinary values.

Our services fall into design, strategy and outreach.

Our

WORK

Consu

Throughout the year we work with local and global communities to showcase design and bridge the gap between creatives and opportunities.

Our agency structure allows us to work on internal projects and partner programmes.

Projects span showcase and studio activities, and range from design thinking and strategic facilitation, to digital and physical products, systems, services and experiences.

Festival

Now in its 8th year, the festival has evolved into a place that encourages creativity and expression from participants, partners and visitors.

Every year we pick a theme that’s relatable to us all on a small and big scale, in life and design.

The festival provides many of our agency projects with additional value.

Frequently asked

QUESTIONS

Who have you worked with?

Cross Icon Image
British Council; Goethe Institute; Opportunity Factory; Sandstorm Kenya; Kibera Fashion Week; What Design Can Do; Sovereign Nature Inititative; Kenya Wildlife Trust; World Design Weeks; Design Intelligence Awards; Elite Digital; Kazuri Beads; Uber; and many others.

Why does Nairobi Design exist?

Cross Icon Image
For local designers to solve local problems, to showcase their work and to raise the profile of the design industry in Kenya.

What is a 'design week'?

Cross Icon Image
Design weeks and festivals take place around the world, as a celebration of design. They range in size and strategy, and are mostly either private or government owned, independent of each other. Some of the most established include Milan Design Week, London Design Festival, Helsinki Design Week and Barcelona Design Week. We sit on the board of World Design Weeks, a membership organisation of 40+ global festivals.

Why and when did you rebrand?

Cross Icon Image
We wanted the breadth of our activities to be clearer and made the switch to 'Nairobi Design' as our brand name in January 2023. The festival is still called 'Nairobi Design Week' to reflect its purpose and legacy.

What's the meaning behind the pattern?

Cross Icon Image
We designed the pattern in 2017 to symbolise a community that connects, creates, shares and builds a platform together. Along with our brand identity, it also got a refresh. What do you think?

Are you part of the same company as XYZ Design/Fashion Week?

Cross Icon Image
No, we're independently run from any other organisation. We partner with our friends at Kibera Fashion Week, and Kampala Design Week and other festivals around the world through the World Design Weeks network.
