Kairos Futura repurposed a popular Kenyan form of transportation, **Matatu, ** into a spaceship that has traveled from the future to our time. The “Matatu Space Ship: A Portal to the Future” installation at Nairobi Design Week 2023 was created by @art_abdul

The Jiko Exhibit was a “substation” of the Matatu and through this project, the creators aimed to raise awareness about the environmental impacts of pollution and inspire individuals to take action in their own communities to protect the planet. One of the primary causes of deforestation in Kenya is charcoal production for jiko's and Rop wanted to transformed one into a symbol of hope for the future of Nairobi

This innovative artwork incorporated a seed bank and water collection system, highlighting the importance of sustainability and biodiversity.

Husna Ismail created the Resource Reallocation Renegade Movement, an interactive installation in which economics and environmentalism play a role in a future underground renegade movement in Nairobi in the year 2123.

Participants were asked several questions, assigned the kind of 3RM environmental rebel that they align with and then be “booked” in a police station booth for their environmental banditry. Types of rebels included Drone Pirate, Oxygen Dealer and Tree Smuggler.

The initiative's exhibited at this year's festival focused on ecological issues and rebuilding inner-city areas to create a more sustainable city for the community. The team is dedicated to developing imaginative solutions that improve the environment, promote biodiversity, and enhance the quality of life for those living in informal settlements.
